Wang Huangsheng
PhD in Fine Arts. Professor and PhD Supervisor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA); Director of the New Museology Research Center at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA); Expert receiving the Special Government Allowance of the State Council; Deputy Director of the Curatorial Art Committee of the China Artists Association; Deputy Director of the Art Museum Professional Committee of the Chinese Museums Association; Museum Expert Consultant of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of Hong Kong. He also serves as a Distinguished Professor at Heidelberg University in Germany and Yunnan University in China, among other academic positions. He has previously held the posts of Director of the Guangdong Museum of Art, Director of the CAFA Art Museum, and Chief Curator of the GAFA Art Museum.
He was awarded the Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government in 2004, the Order of the Knight by the President of Italy in 2006, and the title of Excellent Educator of Beijing by the Beijing municipal government in 2013. He also won the Annual Curator Award (2010) and the Annual Art Contribution Award (2017) at the Power List of Chinese Art.
He founded and curated numerous large-scale art exhibitions including the Guangzhou Triennial, Guangzhou International Photography Biennale, CAFAM Biennale, CAFAM Future Exhibition, Beijing International Photography Biennale, and Pan-Southeast Asia Biennale.
He has held solo art exhibitions at public institutions in Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, as well as in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Wuhan, Guilin, Kunming, Guiyang, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other cities in China.
His works are included in the permanent collections of prestigious institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum (UK), British Museum (UK), Ashmolean Museum of Oxford University (UK), Uffizi Gallery (Italy), Mantua Museum (Italy), Hoffmann Collection (Germany), Bonn Contemporary Art Museum (Germany), German-Chinese Cultural Exchange Foundation, National Art Museum of China, CAFA Art Museum, Art Museum of Nanjing University of the Arts, Guangdong Museum of Art, Zhejiang Art Museum, Hubei Museum of Art, Anhui Museum, Suzhou Museum, and Long Museum (Shanghai).
He has published several academic monographs including Art Museum as Knowledge Production, New Art Museum: Strategy, Concept and Practice, and Wanderings and Poems.
